About this local community
The community is located 1 kilometer from the centre of Saraguro, the seat of the parish; The origin of the name of the community of Ilincho derives from the herb "Illin" which is very common in this territory. It can be found at 2500 meters in the Southern Ecuadorian Sierra.
The houses of this community are built according to the construction method "bahareque", using wood, "chaklla, bejuco, barro", and the roof is covered by tiles.
The Saraguros are one of the Quechuan villages in the Nothern Sierra, and their name is related to corn (Sara means corn in Quechua) their culture has always been related to this type of agricultural product.
This village can be characterized by its typical black and white dress made out of sheep wool, as well as, the common woolen hats which symbolise the sun.

The festivitities of the Puggla cross are celevrated on the 3rd of May since more than 100 years. The cross which is now made of iron and concrete used to be wooden.
