About this local community
La Esperanza is a Kicwha community located in the heart of the Ecuador Andes, at 3600 meters above sea level.
Around 30 families, for a total of 200 people, settle there.
The inhabitants are dedicated mainly to cattle ranch and agriculture, working the fields of the central mountain range. The relationship with Pachamama, mother earth, is symbiotic.
The community tourism project took shape in the Esperanza community in the years 2013 and 2014. By implementing this type of project, the community members want to satisfy the community's own needs such as self-management, community control, and social and economic benefit.
They also want to value and give visibility to local traditions and culture, which, in an ever more globalized world, risk losing themselves.
